Job description
Job Purpose The Arabic Translator is responsible for providing accurate, professional, and culturally appropriate translation services between Arabic and English for official documents, correspondence, reports, policies, regulations, technical materials, presentations, and communication materials within the Department of Municipality & Transportation. The role ensures consistency of terminology, linguistic quality, and effective communication while supporting regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and organizational objectives. Key Responsibilities Translation Services Translate a wide range of documents from Arabic to English and English to Arabic while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and context. Translate official correspondence, reports, contracts, policies, procedures, technical specifications, presentations, and public communications. Ensure translations are linguistically correct, professionally written, and culturally appropriate. Maintain consistency in terminology and language usage across all translated materials. Technical Translation Translate engineering, transportation, infrastructure, urban planning, municipal, and regulatory documents. Review technical documents to ensure accurate interpretation of specialized terminology. Coordinate with subject matter experts to verify technical content when necessary. Develop and maintain technical terminology databases and glossaries. Editing & Proofreading Proofread translated documents for grammar, syntax, spelling, formatting, and consistency. Review and edit translations completed by external translators or service providers. Conduct quality assurance checks before final submission. Ensure all translated documents meet organizational standards and requirements. Linguistic Quality Control Maintain consistency in translation style, terminology, and formatting. Ensure language quality complies with organizational communication standards. Update translation references and terminology resources regularly. Recommend improvements to translation processes and standards. Documentation & Records Management Maintain records of translated documents and translation requests. Organize and archive translation files and reference materials. Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive information and official documents. Track translation assignments and deadlines to ensure timely delivery. Stakeholder Support Provide language support to internal departments and project teams. Assist in preparing bilingual communication materials and presentations. Support meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagements requiring translation assistance. Respond to requests for translation services within agreed service levels. Compliance & Governance Ensure translated materials comply with government regulations, organizational policies, and legal requirements. Support the implementation of official language standards. Maintain confidentiality and neutrality when handling official information. Ensure translated content accurately reflects approved source materials without alteration of meaning. Qualifications & Experience Educational Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Translation, Applied Languages, Arabic Language, English Language, Linguistics, Literature, or a related field. Preferred Master's Degree in Translation Studies, Linguistics, or a related discipline. Professional Certifications (Preferred) Certification in Translation or Interpretation from a recognized institution. Certification from a professional translation association. Training in technical, legal, or government translation. Experience 3-5 years of professional experience in Arabic-English translation. Experience within government, municipality, transportation, infrastructure, engineering, or public sector organizations is preferred. Experience translating technical, legal, regulatory, or administrative documents. Proven experience in editing, proofreading, and quality assurance of translations.
