Job description

Department: WCAS Linguistics The Department of Linguistics at Northwestern University seeks to fill a full-time tenure-eligible position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2027. We are looking for candidates who pursue an integrated approach to the scientific study of language, utilizing experimental, computational, and/or data-intensive approaches to inform linguistic theory and its applications. The candidate will join a vibrant interdisciplinary community including researchers from cognitive neuroscience, computer science, philosophy, psychology, and speech science. We seek candidates with a forward-looking research program that holds the promise of future external funding. To receive fullest consideration, applications should arrive by December 1st, 2026. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Psychology (or a related field) by the start date. This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
